MyNature Tree Guide App Reviews

Great tree guide

This is a nice little app for nature lovers. It makes figuring out the type of tree you are looking at an easy science.

Lacking

190 species sounds like a lot, but for all of North America, it really isnt. The needleleaf section is okay, but the broadleaf trees are so incomplete! It only identifies the most basic species on the continent, and there are a lot of typos in the descriptions. There is a $4 app that is way more comprehensive, you should get that instead. The only reason I give it 2 stars instead of 1 is because it has nice features like glossary and notes. It might be okay for the beginner, but I wouldnt recommend it.

Great for the tree noob

This is great for the person just starting out. Still find I need two apps, to log sightings and geotagged photos. But at least with this app I can identify the tree.

Needs updates!

I think this app needs a serious update! It lacks MANY species that would be expected in a field guide. I would not recommend this app for the price.

Fun Learning tool

This is a great app for family outings. Easy reference to help teach the kids about nature. Nice addition to the Tracks app. Great job!

Great APP

Were always looking for tree books with real photos of bark, leaves, needles, cones and fruit and all we can find is illustrations, this APP has it all and the photos are in clear close up color. The descriptions are easy to understand, and its fun to mess with. Every one Ive shown has been very impressed and so am I. If you travel, camp, or hike you should have this APP.

trees of all kinds...

This is a wonderful app, full of information and photos. thank you Jeff, you have been very helpful.

Top notch

Easy to use and super informative!

Another great app that I use on the job and off. Love the search by question option to quickly find the tree Im looking at. Cant wait for more trees to added. Being an outdoorsy kinda of person this will be one of the few apps I will use often. Now can ya make one for dragonflies??!!

Great App With Quality Pictures!

I have several Tree apps and most of them were a disappointment because of the terribly low-resolution pictures. Im happy to say that this is not a problem with the MyNature Tree Guide! The pictures here are fantastic. Not just because they are colorful and clear (and they are that!) but because the myriad of pictures for each tree is a huge help when trying to actually ID whatever tree youre looking at. It seems that 99% of the outdoor apps miss this and its so vital. Anything less than quality pics is useless. If its a blurry pic of tree fruit or bark, how can you see the subtleties that youre looking for? In addition to the great pics, the app. arranges other information such as description, glossary, a journal and a range map pretty well. Youll find most of what you need there. My only suggestion is that the developer take a look at adding some more search options. Id like to see a search by Family, by Tree Shape or by Common Name. A few different search groups could help users zero in on a tree based on more characteristics, providing the best chance to find a match as well as help you learn. Currently, the search is limited to "Trees with Leaves" and Trees With Needles". Its good enough to get you around but the more efficient, the better. Overall, though, its a very solid resource and perfect for learning or field work. I need more time with it to really see all it can do but am extremely impressed with this app right out of the gate. Easily worth the $$ One other thing: check out the Animal Tracks app by MyNature, also. Thats the first one I bought from them and its fantastic. Ive used that one a lot in the field and it rocks!

Awesome App!

This app is amazing, I love that I can use this app to quickly identify a tree while out on walks, full of clear details, and very easy to use make this app a real pleasure to work with.

Best tree identification app out there

I grew up with a forester father, learning how to identify trees. Ive been looking for an app to recommend to friends to help them identify trees, and this is the best Ive found. Pros- lots of the trees native to the area, good pictures of leaves, fruit, and bark, good searches for identifying an unknown tree. Cons- Sorting capabily when browsing needs to be improved, you can only view via the genus. Would be nice to be able to specify how you want to browse: by genus, by common name, by searching, etc. Also, a minor note, some photos of leaves get squashed, unless you look at them full screen, therefore you might think an eye shaped leaf is more rounded than it really is (for an example, look at the sweet birch leaf).

Great App!

An easy to use and informative app for identifying trees. This would be great for any science classroom using ipod touches or ipads!

Great for kids too!

I took my 5 year old out and she used this app to identify the trees we saw. It is easy to use and thorough. Highly recommended!

Great for iTouch

I love this ap because it does not require a data connection which makes it great for iTouch or when there is no signal. My kids love it as well - very intuitive and makes identificaiton fun for them. The look is clean and accurate (I was a Natural Resources major). I look forward to more aps for this developer. Super ap and worth every penny.

Great App - but does sometimes crash

This is a great app with beautiful pictures and pretty good walkthrough. My only concern is that when you go through the step by step process of identifying trees and a list of possible matches is displayed - if you try to look at more than one tree in the list, the app crashes. This happens every single time. But hopefully the company will work that out because really nice app.

Dis app is tight. My an da fam luv it. dis taught me so much about dem trees. Thank you!!!

Hands down the best tree id app

This app Is by far the best tree identification app available today. Whether you are a casual tree enthusiast, or a hardcore tree lover, this app is very helpful in identifying a variety of trees, and the wide array of species and pictures in this app make it very easy to use. This app doesnt need to be connected to a network which makes it very useful in remote locations. I use this app daily as a residential tree Id tool in San Diego and it works great. The only downfall is that this app does crash sometimes. A few suggestions that would make this app even better is a history or favorites option. All in all, best tree id app available :)

First Screen Worthy

The best part of this app is the fact that it is more than a field guide book in digital form. Like the animal track app that preceded this, MyNature Tree Guide leads you to the answer through a series of easy questions. And it not only makes it very quick and easy to identify a tree, but it also teaches you about plant identification in the process. I really appreciated that in addition to the logical user interface, it also provides you with a variety of views: photos of the needle, cone, and a full view of the tree and an illustration. Its on the first screen of my iPhone :)

helpful...but not quite there.

frequent crashes, deep into the process of identification, which is VERY frustrating: you have to navigate the whole set of questions again. and the illustrations offered are amateurish--very chicken-scratch-y. still, in the absence of better tree ID apps, this is worth a spin. but if youre looking for something dependable, get a book.
